Observation notebook ยท not a tester

Find out which breaker actually controls what.

Most homes have a panel label that is wrong, blank, or 30 years out of date. Circuit Mapper walks you through your own house breaker by breaker, records exactly what you observed, and turns those notes into a searchable map you can hand to the next person.

This application records user observations. It does not test, diagnose, verify, or certify electrical circuits. Do not rely on this record to establish that equipment is safe to service. If you notice unusual behavior or are unsure, stop and consult a qualified electrician.

How it works

Panel-first, one breaker at a time

Set up your panel once, then walk the house with a guided session for a single breaker group. Each result is one tap.

Test points, not just rooms

A duplex receptacle has two halves. A fan has a motor and a light kit. Each is recorded separately, because they are often on different circuits.

History is never overwritten

Observations are append-only. Today's answer is derived from the newest evidence, and disagreements get flagged for review instead of quietly resolved.

Honest about what it is not

The app records what you saw. It never tells you a circuit is de-energized or safe to service.

A typical session

  1. 1Photograph and describe your panel, then group the breaker positions you can see.
  2. 2Pick one breaker group and start a session.
  3. 3Switch it off, then walk your list of test points and tap what you saw.
  4. 4Switch it back on. The map updates, and anything contradictory is flagged for review.
